The first step in the design process, concept development, is perhaps
the most important in that it serves to capture the vision of the
customer and establish if the prospect of achieving project goals
is high.

Collaborating extensively with the customer
and major component suppliers, the concept is iterated to achieve
the most optimal solution. Working predominantly in 3-D, CAD is
used to model and establish the general engine layout and define
key engine dimensions and define subsystems, leveraging Orbitals
extensive engine knowledge base. In addition to use of CAD, Orbitals
suite of analysis, simulation and performance prediction tools are
used to confirm design choices.
The outputs from this project phase would typically
include:
- Concept Design and General Layout
- Concept Bill of Materials
- Concept Engine Performance Prediction
- Concept Design Review
